PDF Remediation

PDF documents can pose unique accessibility challenges and limit access for individuals with print-disabilities. Generally speaking, it is easier to create an accessible PDF document from Microsoft Word or other word-processing applications rather than fixing the PDF document directly. However, there are often situations in which you must fix the accessibility issues with the PDF document instead of relying on other formats.

Equidox

Equidox is a web-based application that allows for the editing and remediating of PDF documents for accessibility purposes. Document authors can upload the PDF and use the tools to set headings, provide text descriptions for images, specify the reading order, and recognize data tables. Equidox currently allows for the export of accessible PDF documents, HTML, and ePub 2 files.

The CCC Accessibility Center has acquired a limited number of licenses for California Community College members to use at no cost. At this time, licenses are limited to approximately 3 per college.
